Welcome to Part Two of our “Eating You Alive” interview! Once again, Director and Producer Paul Kennamer, Jr and Co-Producer Merrilee Jacobs educate us on the plant based lifestyle, the impact of the government on our food supply and the change they are hoping to see for everyone who watches this informative film.
How much influence does pharma have on the medical field?
Pharma has a huge influence- not just on medical schools, but ongoing with drug reps in the physicians’ offices on a regular basis. So often physicians rely on the drug reps to tell them the latest and greatest “research” as it relates to treatment of disease. Doctors don’t have a lot of time to do their own research.
What needs to happen to get WF/PB endorsed by the FDA?
We don’t know that this would ever happen—it’s too much of a conflict with the pharmaceutical industry which stands to lose a huge portion of revenue if more people eat plants!
What do you think is needed to get this marketed to the mainstream public, similar to the ads by the meat, dairy?
Paul: We think that is a great idea! We’re working on a few of those ourselves.
You mentioned the potential conflict of interest of the FDA. What is needed to remedy this potential conflict?
We believe the oversight for food (nutritional/dietary guidelines) needs to be removed from the FDA and its own branch created, also separate from the Department of Agriculture.
Do you expect any push back and/or marketing that will be against WF/PB diets?
We do. You already see it in the way that the dairy industry has come back with ads slamming non-dairy milks. But in saying that, we’re also seeing large companies known for meat production, exploring plant-based options-certainly a response to the demand that they are seeing grow for these options.
What change are you hoping to see with the release of this documentary?
We hope to see a massive number of transformational stories from people having reversed their disease- this would provide further motivation for the rest of the population to take charge of their own health and as a result, reverse our current health crisis!
Readers, please let us know what you think! We’d also like to know if you are making plans to see the movie on April 5. Please post your comments below.
